Keith Swank’s tenure as Sheriff of Pierce County, Washington, is alarming. As citizens who deeply care about the integrity and safety of our community, we cannot overlook the numerous red flags concerning his conduct and fitness for this critical position. 

First and foremost, Swank’s behavior on social media and his pronounced political biases are worrying. A sheriff's role is to serve and protect all citizens without bias or prejudgment. However, his actions have shown a troubling inclination towards divisive rhetoric, which is not only unprofessional but perilous in our diverse county.

Furthermore, Swank would have been  terminated from the Seattle Police Department had he not retired, due to a history of inflammatory online conduct and allegations of racist policing. This raises significant doubts about his ability to serve impartially and effectively. In addition to his past, there are allegations of three pending investigations regarding his conduct as Sheriff. Such a track record demands transparency and accountability—qualities that appear to be sorely lacking in Swank’s leadership.

The accusations of racist policing are particularly distressing. Our community is made richer by its diversity, and we need leadership that unites us rather than divides us along racial lines. The sheriff must be someone citizens of color can trust, especially in these turbulent times, when safety and equality should be our highest priorities.

Swank has also publicly shared and supported information aligning with misleading narratives over verified evidence that is clear to the public eye. This is a dangerous pattern, especially from someone whose role is to uphold the law with objectivity and integrity.

We deserve a Sheriff who not only embodies the principles of fairness and justice but also actively works to ensure that these principles are applied equally to all community members, regardless of race or political affiliation.

In light of all these issues, we are calling for the immediate recall of Keith Swank as Sheriff of Pierce County. It is vital for the safety and trust of our community that we have a sheriff who genuinely represents and stands by the values we hold dear.
