Rebuild the Joseph Yancey Track

Rebuild the Joseph Yancey Track
The Issue

The Joseph Yancey Track, a historic site and vital community resource, is in dire need of refurbishment. Located in the shadows of Yankee Stadium, this track and park has historical significance for NYC run culture and is in desperate need of refurbishment.
This is a $52M project, and the good news is that $48M has been allocated already. Nothing happens until its fully funded.
By investing in this facility, we can create a safe, modern, and inclusive space for exercise and sports, which is crucial for combating the rising health issues like obesity and heart diseases in our community.
Additionally, a restored track could attract regional competitions, boosting local economy and community pride. This project unlocks recreation and competition in one of the most underserved communities and unhealthiest district in the state. This will open up programming for at risk youth, and add measurable value to the area.
The track’s surface has deteriorated, creating unsafe conditions for runners and athletes. Its poor condition also limits its ability to host events that once brought together diverse communities and fostered a spirit of unity and competition.
The cost of rebuilding the Joseph Yancey Track would be a fraction of the benefits it will provide in return: improved community health, stronger local economy, and the revitalization of a beloved landmark.
We urge the city government and local leaders to allocate funds and resources towards the reconstruction of the Joseph Yancey Track. With collective efforts, we can preserve a significant part of our community's heritage and pave the way for future generations to achieve their athletic potential.
Please sign this petition to show your support for rebuilding the Joseph Yancey Track and to bring positive change to our community. Together, we can do this!
