The Issue

Longsight in Manchester is a bustling area, filled with commercial activity and a growing population. Unfortunately, the residents have been deprived of an essential transport facility that was unjustly closed down years ago – the Longsight Train Station and its tramway depots. This has posed significant challenges for many people in the community, especially the elderly and disabled who now struggle to travel with ease and also that can create more jobs getting off from unemployment too.

Having personal experience with these struggles, I know how taxing it is for those who don't own vehicles, only to depend on slow and often unreliable bus services for long distances. For many in the community, these buses create discomfort due to crowded spaces and lengthy journeys which are further exacerbated by the presence of distractions from other vulnerable individuals.

A reopening and redevelopment of Longsight Train Station, including its tramway depots, could revolutionise travel for this area. Restoring these facilities would offer a quick, reliable, and comfortable mode of transport. It would be a lifeline for the elderly, disabled, and those without personal means of transportation, fundamentally altering their travel experience.

To garner the local government's attention and secure the necessary funding, we propose this reconstruction to serve not only as a practical solution but as a community-oriented initiative – free and accessible for those in need. It embodies a commitment to ensuring all community members can participate fully in civic life and seize the opportunities presented by Manchester’s dynamic commercial environment.

Join us in urging our local council to act immediately, ensuring Longsight is equipped with the infrastructure it needs and deserves. Sign this petition today to rebuild Longsight Train Station and tram depots, securing a convenient, swift, and community-focused transport option for thousands. Will also reduce having extra cars or any vehicles etc taking parking spaces and preventing people getting fined unfairly especially elderly and disabled drivers. Together, our collective voice can drive real change."}
