Rebuild Hazel Trembath Elementary School After Devastating Fire

Rebuild Hazel Trembath Elementary School After Devastating Fire
The Issue
My children, like many others in our community of Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada, attend Hazel Trembath Elementary School. The school is home to a growing population of over 200 students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 5. In the early hours of October 14th, 2023, a fire was set to the building. Unfortunately, by the time the firefighters arrived, nothing could be saved.
The loss has been devastating and has disrupted to the lives of parents and students. The building was more than just a place for education; it served as a Strong Start facility, a daycare, and many after school programs. It was the hub and heart of our close-knit Mary Hill community.
Our children are now transported to a temporary building outside of our community and city. There are many barriers and challenges as a result of this displacement. Families are anxious and struggling.
We understand that rebuilding will take time and resources. However, we believe that restoring this institution should be a priority for School District 43 and the Province of BC. We urge them to approve the rebuild of the school.
Our children, and future families, deserve a new building on the existing site. Let's come together and advocate for the rebuild of Hazel Trembath Elementary School.
Please sign this petition if you believe in restoring this important piece of our community.
