I have always been captivated by the celestial bodies that surround us. However, the recent astronomical discovery of a mini moon temporarily orbiting Earth has sparked a different emotion in me – disappointment. Its given name, PT5, lacks the charm and sentimentality that we often associate with these celestial discoveries. The name Nemeia, on the other hand, reflects the sense of wonder and discovery we should feel when looking at the stars. Luna means moon in Roman Mythology and Nemeia is one of Luna’s daughters so it would be very fitting!

Nemeia is a name that I believe represents the moon's uniqueness and captures the essence of its discovery. New moons are a rare occurrence, with only one known moon, PT1, discovered beforehand, demonstrating the novelty of this event. This is our opportunity to add a touch of magic and sparkle to our sky and our science.

This petition aims to urge space organizations and the international astronomical community to rename the new mini moon from PT5 to Nemeia.
