Reboot Artemis Fowl as an Anime

Reboot Artemis Fowl as an Anime
The Issue
Artemis Fowl was treated poorly in its live action film debut, and deserves a second chance as an Anime. When it was announced that Disney would be turning the beloved 2001 book series into a movie (and potentially a saga), we as fans were thrilled to watch the magic of Dublin, Ireland turn into a spectacle for all to witness. But after years of production, and a change to streaming when the pandemic hit, we were disappointed to realize that our dreams were in vain. The story we had come to love had been massacred leaving both fans of the book and newcomers alike frustrated with the poor characterization of the anti-hero Artemis Fowl II, and his vast variety of companions. While the 2020 film adaptation was a discredit to the world the books built, we hope that Disney will revisit this franchise and give it the faithful adaptation it deserves.
We as fans plead that Disney gives Artemis Fowl another chance, not as a film series (like Harry Potter) or a live action show (like Percy Jackson and the Olympians), but as an Anime styled animated series. Creating this series as an animated show would remove restrictions such as:
- New and creative imagery: Allowing new and creative ways to tell the story through imagery
- World design and physics: World design, building unique characters, and defying physics that live action media has to work around with special props and CGI effects
- Age-proof casting: Younger cast aging out of their roles the longer production goes on, as voice actors imitating children has been done in the industry for years now.
- Longevity and style: Extend the amount of time needed to produce a show that covers the 8 books in the series while keeping an iconic style.
With the rise in Asian Animation (or anime) in the West, modern American audiences and worldwide audiences are more accepting of different cultures and animation styles. The storytelling in Anime would fit the location and themes of Artemis Fowl well, as stories of scheming main characters (Death Note), fantasy settings (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End), and action that builds suspense (Fullmetal Alchemist) are all common themes and tropes that are popular in the world of anime, and are well represented in Artemis Fowl. Disney has had a hard time representing anti-heroes in live action, and we believe that the format of animation could help them overcome that weakness.
The action, story, and message of Artemis Fowl deserves the best detail and care and we hope that Disney will see that there is an audience for this story that wishes for it to be done justice!
