Reassessing & Redefining Southern California Edison Grid #35 for Eastern Simi Valley

Reassessing & Redefining Southern California Edison Grid #35 for Eastern Simi Valley
The Issue
Hi Simi neighbors and friends! My name is Maddie, and I live in the eastern part of Simi Valley (93063). I love our community. Those that are also in Eastern Simi know that we live in a beautiful, quiet part of town surrounded by foothills and friendly neighbors. But frequently, our daily lives have been disrupted — not by wildfires or extreme winds — but by unnecessary power shut-offs that leave our neighborhood in the dark for days at a time.
Southern California Edison has placed our area on Grid #35, which includes hillside and mountain homes located higher up the Kuehner corridor. The problem? Our homes and small businesses, from Beto’s Italian Bistro to Smith Road are most often not in the high-wind zones. We’re on lower, flatter ground, yet we’re constantly losing power even when the weather is calm and there’s no fire threat.
These Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are meant to protect communities during dangerous wind events — but for us, they’ve become frequent, prolonged, and unnecessary. Families can’t work from home, seniors are left without heat or communication, food spoils, and small businesses lose income. Many neighbors can’t afford to buy or run generators. Meanwhile, other areas in Simi Valley that actually experience stronger winds stay fully powered.
To me and many others, this isn’t fair, and it’s not based on real conditions in our part of the city.
That’s why I started this petition — to ask the City of Simi Valley to advocate for a reassessment of Grid #35. We’re simply asking for common sense and fairness:
✅ Separate the hillside homes from our ground-level neighborhoods.
✅ Update the grid to reflect actual wind and fire-risk data.
✅ Restore power faster when it’s safe to do so.
We support wildfire prevention and public safety — we just want those efforts to be data-driven and equitable.
If you live in Eastern Simi Valley or know someone affected by these ongoing shutoffs, please sign and share this petition. Let’s work together to make sure our community isn’t left powerless for no reason.
Best regards,
Maddie L.
