Ready-To-Run Scale Models of SEPTA Trains

Ready-To-Run Scale Models of SEPTA Trains
The Issue
I am an active model railroader and train enthusiast, and I am annoyed by the fact that SEPTA electric multiple unit trains are not available as ready to run scale models. Push-pull sets are available from Bachmann and Rapido; Bachmann makes the Siemens ACS-64 locomotives and Rapido makes the Comet coaches to go with them. In addition, Con-Cor Trains produces replicas of the MP-54 electric multiple units in ready-to-run form; they are available in Pennsylvania, Penn Central, and SEPTA colors. But, other than that, those are the only options available. This is not acceptable. Any modeler attempting to authentically model the Northeast Corridor in Philadelphia or just modelling the Philadelphia metropolitan area in general should have access to a wide variety of SEPTA Regional Rail trains, including:
- Budd Silverliner I (aka Pioneer III) electric multiple units
- Budd Silverliner II electric multiple units
- St Louis Car Company Silverliner III electric multiple units
- GE Silverliner IV electric multiple units
- Hyundai Rotem Silverliner V electric multiple units
- EMD AEM-7/ALP-44 electric locomotives
- CRRC multi-level commuter cars
- Reading electric multiple units ("Blueliners")
These new models should be equipped with DCC (Digital Command Control) and sound decoders for realistic operation. If these pieces were produced as ready-to-run models, it would be a benefit to any modeler wanting to model Philadelphia or the vicinity, or the Northeast Corridor. Furthermore, in keeping with the history and legacy of SEPTA, some cars should be available in Reading Company and Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central paint schemes.
