[READ DESCRIPTION] Keep Great America Open for Future Families to Enjoy!
The Issue
Note: Managed by Marita and John for our 12-year-old son, John Jr.
Hello everybody! My name is John Jr, I am 12 years old, and like a lot of you, I LOVE California's Great America. It's very saddening that it's closing, and I think I know how to save it. I sent an email to the mayor and councilmembers and I got a response! I talked during a city council meeting, and now I'm doing this!
Right now, a real estate company named Prologis owns the land and wants to tear the park down. But they cannot build on it unless the City Council allows them to change the zoning. The goal is to have the council refuse any requests to change the "Planned Development" zoning of the land. By protecting the current zoning, we can protect thousands of local youth jobs and stop the demolition.
If Great America DOES close, 2,800,000 people who visit annually would have nowhere to go for a fun evening. Approximately 3,500 people will be left jobless. Future generations of workers won't have a good starting job. Silicon Valley would be left looking bare. Generations of kids will be left not knowing the joy that Great America once brought us, and it'll be because of if you sign this petition or not. My OWN family will be out of places to go for the summer. My kids won't have an amusement park we can visit reguarly where I can say, "My own dad took me on that ride when I was your age" I can't say "Your grandma loves Flight Deck"
This is why, Great America is more than just an amusement park. It is where some careers started, it livens up the Silicon Valley, and it creates memories that last a lifetime. If we can somehow get a LOT of signatures, I can send it to the council members and Mayor, and we can save Great America! Please sign and share!
