Re-run the 2020 U.S. Census

The Issue

Everyone in the United States benefits from accurate census data, which is why the Constitution requires a regular census.  In 2020, the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic did not allow for an accurate census to be taken.  The 2020 U.S. Census should therefore be re-run as soon as possible.

We have never in our history had such radical systemic change fall upon the country during a census year.  With social distancing and other health measures in place, it is questionable whether or not the data could be accurately collected in the first place.  Nevertheless, it is unlikely that any data from 2020 would fully reflect the shifts in household, workplace, and social dynamics that are only just becoming clear in 2022.  Inaccurate census data will disproportionally affect minority and lower income communities that are already underrepresented.  This is the case in Detroit and other cities that have challenged the latest census results, citing insufficient resources.

Every sound policy and investment decision will rely on census-based demographics.  We need accurate data to ensure fairness in these decisions. We have the technology and resources to mobilize, and we will have integrity in the data collection process as conditions continue to stabilize.  Please sign and share this petition to re-run the 2020 U.S. Census.
