Re-route the South Beach Dual Carriageway Proposal in Blyth, N’land away from properties
Re-route the South Beach Dual Carriageway Proposal in Blyth, N’land away from properties
The Issue
The objection is not to “A” dual carriageway being built, but the Council should look at alternatives away from our properties.
The proposed dual carriageway for South Beach Blyth Northumberland, will be coming within feet of our properties.
The flow of traffic at present on the existing single road, even at peak times is flowing. The build up occurred whilst traffic lights were present during the building of the station.
The proposed four sets of traffic lights from the beach to the station will result in start-stop traffic that contribute to stationary pollution. This also defeats the flow of traffic.
The plan to transition from a dual carriageway into a single-lane bridge raises significant safety concerns due to potential bottlenecks and accidents.
Given the proposed dual carriageway will create more traffic from cars and HGVS, this poses a serious health risk to all residents with the proposed road being so close to our homes.
The traffic problem has always been Cowpen Road. The council are now wanting to bring that problem to us, at the expense of the residence health and wellbeing.
This project threatens to increase traffic congestion, noise and air pollution levels significantly. According to World Health Organisation reports, exposure to high levels of noise can lead to stress-related illnesses, sleep disruption, hypertension and heart disease. Similarly, air pollution from vehicle emissions is known to cause respiratory diseases (Source: WHO).
It also poses serious safety risks for our gardens and homes.
Additionally, this development could lead to increased through-traffic on our residential streets and potentially lower property values.
We urge local authorities to reconsider this proposal with community interests at heart. We need infrastructure that respects our quality of life and environmental health rather than compromising it. We do not want a dual carriage way within feet of our properties. Please sign this petition if you stand with us against the South Beach dual carriageway proposal which will have an extremely harmful impact on our health.
