The Issue

Support Liberal Vannin in its campaign to ask Ramsey Town Commissioners and the Department of Infrastructure to re-open the Re-use Shed at the Northern Civic Amenity Site at Balladoole. The Re-use Shed at Balladoole has been a valuable resource for our community in Ramsey, Garff and the Northern Parishes, Isle of Man, serving as a hub for sustainability and community support. It allowed residents to drop off unwanted items that were still in good condition, which others could then take and reuse, thus reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.

Since its closure, the community has felt the absence of this vital facility. Many residents relied on the Re-use Shed not just for the practical benefits but also for the fostering of a community spirit, where people came together, shared resources, and supported sustainable living practices. With environmental concerns on the rise globally, and locally, now is the time to reinforce our commitment to sustainable practices.

Re-opening the Re-use Shed would bring numerous benefits: it would reduce landfill waste, lessen the environmental footprint of our community, and promote a culture of reuse and recycling. These are crucial steps towards a more sustainable future, reflecting well on the community and aligning with broader environmental goals.

Beyond the environmental impact, the Re-use Shed served as a bridge for economic relief for many, allowing those in need to access household items without the exchange of money. Its re-opening would support the economically vulnerable in our area, providing them access to necessary goods during challenging economic times.

Ramsey Town Commissioners and the Department of Infrastructure have the power to make this change. By re-opening the Re-use Shed at Balladoole, they can not only restore a significant community asset but also demonstrate a commitment to innovation in sustainability practices. We urge these authorities to consider the positive impact this facility has on both people and the environment.

For the enrichment of our community and the protection of our environment, we call upon residents of Ramsey and the North to advocate for the re-opening of the Re-use Shed at Balladoole. Let’s unite in this cause and push for change. Join Liberal Vannin members Lawrie Hooper, MHK, Pauline Johns-Garrett  Ramsey Town Commissioner and Paul Weatherall, Ballaugh Parish Commissioner and please sign this petition today to make your voice heard.
