The issue

For many years local creative arts groups have used St. George Bank Head Office Auditorium in Kogarah for Dance, Theatrical and Musical recitals.

Community creative arts groups run on shoestring budgets to benefit the people from their local community and we cannot compete with larger more professional organizations who can afford to pay thousands to rent auditoriums for end of year performances.

Many of these smaller community creative arts groups are being penalized as we cannot find affordable theatres or even available theatres for our end of year shows. Community singing, dancing and acting schools are a vital part of community health for both children and adults.

I've run a small not for profit creative arts school for children for 23 years and for 15 years of that we have used the St. George Bank Auditorium for our performances but that is a thing of the past. Ever since COVID they have shut down any use by local community groups.

The big banks like St. George who own large auditoriums that just sit there empty, could make them available to the local community. St. George you owe it to those communities where you reside to open up these spaces for use. It's hard enough for us to survive as it is without having to pay thousands each year for costly theatres.

It's good for you to give back to the community that has supported you in Kogarah since you decentralized from the city 30 years ago St. George.

Open up the Auditorium to community use again, c'mon on St. George and partner with your local community, we have no where to go, give us a home to go to again!
