Representatives from the Save Aberdeen Libraries and Save Bucksburn Swimming Pool campaigns have met today (Thursday, 13 April) with lawyers from Govan Law Centre and Grampian Community Law Centre who have agreed to support our campaign to re-open Bucksburn Swimming Pool and the public libraries at Cornhill, Cults, Ferryhill, Kaimhill, Northfield and Woodside.
The legal advice from Solicitor Advocate, Mike Dailly, is that the decision by Aberdeen City Council on 1 March 2023 to close our libraries and swimming pool appears to be unlawful in relation to recent Scottish case law and susceptible to legal challenge by way of a petition for judicial review in the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
Work will now be undertaken to ensure that the legal rights of local people and communities across Aberdeen are protected in law. Litigation can be avoided if the council is prepared to reverse its decision to close our libraries and swimming pool.
If you would like to get more involved as we join together to pursue legal action for the users of these libraries and the pool who have been adversely affected by the closures please get in touch with us - saveaberdeenlibs@gmail.com
Thank you for your support, and do keep sharing our petition.
We also hope to see lots of you on Saturday 29 April at the May Day March!
