Re-evaluate Fremont's bike path implementation
The Issue
Arguments Regarding Bike Lane Re-Evaluation and Transparency
- What this petition actually asks for
Nothing extreme. Just measurement, transparency, and a voice — the things a "safety" program should welcome. - Measure it. Publish a corridor-specific before/after crash & traffic study for Fremont Blvd before approving more redesigns.
- Show the money. Itemize and release the actual Vision Zero / bike-lane program cost.
- Show the volume. Publish Fremont Blvd's daily traffic count against FHWA's ~20,000-vehicle road-diet threshold.
- Show response times. Release fire/EMS response times for redesigned corridors.
- Re-evaluate the designs that choke traffic and turning — as the city is already doing at Mowry.
- Give residents a vote on major changes to the roads they use every day.

Life in Fremont has become incredibly inconvenient with the recent changes to the road system, specifically the addition of bike paths. Having lived in this city for a considerable time, the impact of these paths is both puzzling and frustrating. Driving through Fremont Blvd, for example, has become a hassle. The new bike paths force unnecessary turns and blockages, making what used to be simple right turns onto Mowry a challenge. It's ridiculous how these changes cater to bikers who seem practically non-existent.
The intersections on major streets like Grimmer and Omar are clogged because of these needless bike paths and the poorly timed traffic lights. Traffic lights engage automatically, causing delays even when there are no cars in sight. It's even hard for those who live right by these lights as they have to deal with the constant, flashing bright lights at night. Imagine the distress of having such an irrelevant disruption right outside your house, with glaring lights that serve no practical purpose.
The safety and convenience of everyday drivers have been overlooked. These changes not only increase commute times but also pose potential risks on the road. When you have to constantly adjust on a familiar road due to unnecessary infrastructures, mistakes and accidents are bound to happen.
We urge the City of Fremont to re-evaluate their plans for bike paths and traffic lights. A detailed assessment to balance both vehicular and biking needs, along with more responsive traffic light systems tailored to actual vehicle presence, is necessary. This will ensure safety and convenience for all. Please sign this petition if you agree that driver safety and practical city planning should be prioritized.
