Re-elect Chancellor Jose "Dong" V. Camacho, Jr. as UPLB Chancellor
The Issue
Dear Board of Regents, University of the Philippines,
As scholars, students, alumni, and members of the academic community at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), we have witnessed firsthand the transformative leadership of Chancellor Jose "Dong" V. Camacho, Jr. His strategic vision and commitment to academic excellence continue to shape a resilient and forward-looking institution.
Under Chancellor Camacho’s stewardship, UPLB has made significant strides through his flagship agenda, "Future-Proofing UPLB." Designed to sustain the university’s relevance and build resilience against future systemic shocks, this framework systematically strengthens UPLB’s human resources, lifelong learning and instruction, research and innovation, public service, and global engagement.
Chancellor Camacho brings deep institutional experience and academic rigor to his office:
Academic Excellence: Earned his Doctor of Economics from Kyoto University (specializing in Economics of Education, Labor, and Human Resource Economics), Master of Arts in Economics from Erasmus University, and BS in Economics from UPLB.
Administrative Leadership: Served as Dean of the Graduate School (2012–2020), Associate Dean and Chair of Academic Programs at CEM (2007–2012), and Chair of the Department of Economics (2001–2004).
National Impact: Serves as Chair of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Graduate Education and Co-Chair of the TWG for the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) under CHED.
As his term approaches its conclusion, maintaining this momentum is critical for the future of our university, its scholars, and the entire alumni network that carries its legacy.
We respectfully urge the UP Board of Regents to re-elect Dr. Jose "Dong" V. Camacho, Jr. as Chancellor to ensure sustained stability, innovation, and visionary leadership for UPLB.
