Thank you all for supporting this petition. Almost 2,300 people have signed already which is great. Also last Friday's residents meeting was a success and about 150 people or more attended. Further, flyers have been printed and delivered to CPZ and neighbouring areas.

However, it is still important for all of you to object to the council directly by sending an email by 11 April with the reason(s) of your objection to the 'Director of Communities' at 'TMO@kingston.gov.uk' - quoting reference 'KingMap0023' and please cc 'kingstoncpz@gmail.com' so we can keep track of numbers and keep you up-to-date (see below for an example email).

Sending an email is essential as a high number of direct objections is the only way to put pressure on the committee that decides on this plan and to get them to reject it.

Please continue to reach out to friends, neighbours, colleagues, parents at school, etc.  Also don't forget to point out to anyone in neighbouring roads that they could be affected if some residents in a CPZ decide to park their cars (or second cars) close to their homes, instead of paying for an increased parking permit! Make sure everyone will send an objection email and keep asking people to do so.

Note that only 3 days are left to do so!

Here an example email - of course you can give your own reason for objection(s):

Dear director of communities,

RE: KingMap0023

I hereby strongly object to the council's plan to change and vary the parking charges of parking permits for residents because:

  • It is discriminating to target a small and specific group of car users only
  • CPZs aren't made to reduce air pollution or to change people's driving behaviour but they are there to prevent commuters and shoppers that come to Kingston to park their cars in residential areas
  • People having a residential parking permit tend to use their car less frequent locally so they shouldn't be punished
  • Parked cars don't cause pollution and one should target driving cars
  • Revenue from a parking scheme can only be used to maintain the scheme itself and not for other purposes plus making a surplus of revenue is unlawful
  • Quadrupling prices is thievery
  • Why do residents that don't need a parking permit and that have a higher emission vehicle not get charged?
  • Why do all higher emission cars, vans and lorries that visit or pass Kingston including commuters and shoppers not get charged for pollution?

Best regards,
