Thank you all for supporting this petition. Almost 1,800 people signed already which is great. However, it is important to keep the momentum going especially as Kingston council seems to forget that this plan is still in a consultation stage only and isn't a done deal yet.
So if you haven't done so already please object to the council directly by sending an email with the reason(s) of your objection to the 'Director of Communities' at 'TMO@kingston.gov.uk' - quoting reference 'KingMap0023' and please cc 'kingstoncpz@gmail.com' so we can keep track of numbers (see below for an example email). Sending a direct email is essential as a high number of objections is the only way to put pressure on the committee that decides on this plan and to get them to reject it.
Also it is surprising to hear that quite a few residents still don't know about the council's plan to increase the price of residential parking permits. Therefore, I would like to ask you to share this petition with as many residents as possible using email, SMS, Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. And also to talk with your neighbours, other parents at school, people in your local pub, etc. to mention this discriminating, unlawful and plain absurd plan and to get them to send their objections too. Spread the word!
Here an example email - of course you can give your own reason for objection(s):
Dear director of communities,
RE: KingMap0023
I hereby strongly object to the council's plan to change and vary the parking charges of parking permits for residents because:
- It is discriminating to target a small and specific group of car users only
- CPZs aren't made to reduce air pollution or to change people's driving behaviour but they are there to prevent commuters and shoppers that come to Kingston to park their cars in residential areas
- People having a residential parking permit tend to use their car less frequent locally so they shouldn't be punished
- Parked cars don't cause pollution and one should target driving cars
- Revenue from a parking scheme can only be used to maintain the scheme itself and not for other purposes
- Quadrupling prices is thievery
- Why do residents that don't need a parking permit and that have a higher emission vehicle not get charged?
- Why do all higher emission cars, vans and lorries that visit or pass Kingston including commuters and shoppers not get charged for pollution?
