At Tuesday's school board meeting an alternate plan was presented by Mr. Allen for discussion. It included many points which he hoped would be up for as much discussion and deliberation as the board is taking on the superintendent's proposal of closing and merging schools. Instead the board forced a vote and it was voted out without any such respect. School board member Mrs. Franklin said in an interview on KALB, "This did not require a vote tonight. This warranted to have a deeper discussion, and look at this in its totality, and not in some areas. So I am disappointed." I am also disappointed in the general attitude of the board. It seems very divisive and contentious. I ask everyone to pray for the school board and our communities that we may be able to rise above politics and find the best solution for our community's children. *My personal opinion: Mr. Allen's plan was not perfect, but it warranted discussion and respect. As for these protesters, they want to keep the schools in their neighborhoods and deserve the resources and opportunities that schools in any other area receive. -Heather Matlock
