To whom it may concern,
My name is Anna Wug, and I have three children in the Rapides Parish School System. I am writing to you on the behalf of concerns for our children, teens, teachers, support staff, and for our community with the current wave of Covid and RSV cases.
I have started a petition on chang.org for parents and guardians in our community to sign to push our school start date back for Rapides Parish until after Labor Day. Doing this could help with us shutting down our schools a week or two into the school year, parish lockdown, or full classrooms having to quarantine.
Also, doing this may help our overly congested hospitals, emergency rooms, dr. offices, and even our pharmacies. Our hospitals, doctors’ offices, and pharmacies do not have the support staff currently due to this current wave with Covid and RSV. It also seems that the new strands of covid are spreading a lot faster and with less contact. Our teachers and staff did a wonderful job last year keeping our kids safe and our classrooms clean and sanitized but with these strands spreading fast I am concerned it won’t be enough. Pushing back the school start date would allow this wave to die down some. Hand sanitizing, washing hands, and mask will not prevent the spread. We also need to encourage guardians and staff if possible leading up to the start date to stay home as much as possible.
