Support an upgrade of Coral Sea Playpark, Maroubra, for local families

The issue

I’m a local Mum with an active and adventurous 2.5 year old son. He LOVES going to playparks. Being outside, racing his toy cars down slides and meeting new friends. Unfortunately our nearest playpark, Coral Sea, Maroubra, is in a very bad state. I’d say it is the worst one in Randwick.

For a child his age, there is one broken swing and one car bouncer. Equipment is either missing, damaged, or dangerous. For older kids, it is not much better.  The fence surrounding the park is also broken, which is extra worrying given an off-lead dog park surrounds it. Compared to the standard of other parks in Randwick, this one is way below par.

Even though this park is 100m from our home, most days I walk 20 minutes or drive to another park to give my son somewhere safe and fun he can play and roam. It’s such a shame as it means we are not meeting and connecting with other local families.

A decent playpark can support a child’s mental and physical development, and build a more connected, inclusive community.

This community deserves (and needs) a decent playpark!

It was great to hear that Waverly Council listened to the concerns of a local Bondi Mum, and will invest $300k in a park upgrade. For the sake of our local kids, I hope that Randwick Council will follow suit.

Please support this request to refresh a decaying playpark and make it somewhere kids and families will want to spend time ☺️

Hi Everyone, Thank you for signing the petition. I am more than happy to raise the status of the park with our City Services staff. It looks like it isn't up to scratch. If required I'll push for its inclusion in our works program. Thanks for letting me know, Dylan Parker Randwick City Councillor - Central Ward (Labor)
