Randolph-Macon College students are being asked to pay $300 for a parking permit this year, a substantial increase from previous years.

At the same time, parking availability for both students and staff has become increasingly limited. As incoming class sizes continue to grow and first-year students are also permitted to bring vehicles to campus, more people are competing for the same limited number of parking spaces.

Students are essentially being asked to pay significantly more for increasingly limited access to parking.

For many students, having a vehicle on campus is not optional. Students rely on their cars for work, internships, clinical experiences, volunteer opportunities, appointments, groceries, and other responsibilities off campus.

We are asking Randolph-Macon College to:

• Reconsider and reduce the $300 parking permit fee
• Provide transparency about why the cost increased so significantly
• Explain how the additional parking revenue will be used
• Address the growing shortage of available student and staff parking
• Consider more gradual future increases or lower-cost options for students

We understand that maintaining campus parking has costs. However, a significant increase in price should come with transparency and meaningful improvements in parking availability.

Students should not be expected to pay substantially more while parking becomes increasingly difficult to access.
