As a student in Wisconsin, I have experienced firsthand the struggle of working jobs that pay just barely above the current minimum wage of $7.25. Despite this being above the minimum wage, I found it extremely hard to pay for occasional groceries, yet I'm only buying for myself. While my family's income has cushioned me from severe financial hardship, I am acutely aware that many other young workers are not as fortunate. They are often overworked and underpaid, leading to exploitation and financial instability. This economic crisis gets exacerbated when a minimum wage worker has to also afford rent, groceries, gas, etc, and this worsens when they have a family to support.

The minimum wage in our state has remained stagnant at $7.25 since 2009, failing to keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living. Since 2009, the cumulative inflation rate in the USA has increased by 43.12%. This means that what could be bought for $10 in 2009 now costs approximately $14.31. Yet our wages have not reflected this change.

Raising Wisconsin's minimum wage to at least $15 would significantly improve living standards for many workers across our state who are currently struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis.

Some speculators will bring up the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 that was introduced to the House, but I find it necessary to note that there has not been action on the bill since it's introduction in 2021.
