I am writing in regards to those including myself who work in the mental health specifically psychiatric facilities. As a mental health worker, we work in a dangerous environment with violent patients including those with infectious diseases like covid. Most mental health workers make an average of $20-$25 an hour which I feel is too low for us who work in a dangerous environment. Us mental health workers are the front of the line who face psychiatric patients including violent behavior, spitting, throwing urine and bodily fluids, etc and the nurses and therapists make very high wages and they're not as engaged with the patients as much as the mental health workers. I thought about it and being able in a dangerous field with assaults, spitting, throwing of urine and bodily waste, I compare the level of potential danger to jails and prisons and I feel that mental health workers such as myself should be paid at least $40 per hour considering the dangers that mental health workers in psychiatric facilities especially county and state facilities. I'd like to suggest a minimum of $40 per hour. I currently work at a county government facility and I feel especially for mental health workers that work at county and state facilities the minimum of $40 per hour would be fair under the circumstances of working directly with violent, assaultive and potentially psychiatric patients infected with contagious diseases. Working in a lock down psychiatric facility, the danger is as high as it is in jails and prisons so I I think the minimum of $40 per hour would be fair for us mental health workers especially those in county and state facilities.
