Raise the Federal Firearm Purchasing Age to 21 and Help End Gun Violence!

Raise the Federal Firearm Purchasing Age to 21 and Help End Gun Violence!
The Issue
Flags are at half-mast...again. People are angry, shocked and hurt...again.
Elementary school children and staff have died...again.
What will we do?
Gun violence impacts all of us. And unfortunately, many of the acts of gun violence in the United States are perpetrated by individuals under the age 21 who purchased guns legally after turning 18. How long will we tolerate this as a society? I understand this issue will not be solved with one act. But we are not helpless.
Whether you are seeing soaring gun violence in your city, in domestic disputes and of course mass school shootings, we must take action to improve the standards of living for all people. Having unlimited and unfettered freedom does not make a country great. What makes a country great is when freedom is balanced with responsibility. There is no way a child who is 18 is mature enough to buy, own and properly use a firearm. Just as there are prohibitions against those under 21 buying alcohol or tobacco, this is common sense and should be done immediately. I am aware that similar legislation has been ruled unconstitutional by federal judges before, but there was a time when civil rights legislation was challenged federally, and subsequently has become the norm. Everything is awkward and uncomfortable until it isn't anymore.
It is time to make this simple change. Please join me and sign this petition if you agree.
We don't have to silently suffer, mourn without action, and feel helpless.
