Raise the Bar for NEET: Protecting our Medical Education Quality

Raise the Bar for NEET: Protecting our Medical Education Quality
The Issue
**Dear NEET Aspirants,**
In recent years, we've seen a rising trend in the number of students achieving perfect scores in NEET examination. While this reflects well on student preparation, it also brings several challenges that need to be addressed to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of our medical education system.
The Problem: The increasing number of perfect scores makes it harder to differentiate among top candidates, creating additional pressure on students to achieve perfection. This not only impacts our mental health and diminishes the value of these scores, but lowers the standard of the NEET examination itself. The many perfect scores also make the ranking harder and less effective.
Our Solution: We propose making the NEET Physics and Chemistry sections just a bit tougher, similar to the JEE Mains level. This change will:
1. Ensure Fair Differentiation: A slightly tougher exam will reduce the number of perfect scores and better distinguish among top performers. Top rankers would be decided based on merit, and not on tie-breaking systems.
2. Reduce Pressure: Students can dream of achieving high scores without perfect scores becoming too commonplace, allowing for a fairer ranking process.
3. Maintain Standards: A tougher exam will uphold the high standards of our medical education system and encourage students to study better, improving overall medical education.
4. Addressing Doubts: Despite the intuition that this might lead to the exam becoming too hard, it is most likely not the case. If students can study for JEE ADVANCED, can they not study for an exam which becomes slightly more challenging? In fact, AIIMS conducted an entrance examination in the past, which aligns closely with the exam standard that we are advocating for. Its physics and chemistry sections were a bit harder compared to the current NEET examination.

We urge all NEET aspirants (and concerned and responsible citizens) to support this petition. By raising the standards slightly, we can ensure a fairer and more meaningful selection process, benefiting everyone in the long run without unfairly impacting those who are dedicated to their studies.
