Raise the Age Limit for Legally Participating in Sex Work to 21

Raise the Age Limit for Legally Participating in Sex Work to 21
The Issue
Day after day, we witness youngsters, barely out of high school and still vying for a safe and secure future, getting ensnared within the world of sex work the moment they turn 18. This practice not only promotes borderline pedophilia but it also fuels the 'barely legal' sex work category, which we firmly believe should be illegal. These are children who, instead of celebrating their youth and freedom on their 18th birthday, are being deprived of their right to make an informed decision about their bodies all in the name of legality.
In many countries, the minimum legal age to engage in other adult activities like consuming alcohol or even getting a tattoo is set above 18. Then why is the minimum legal age for sex work not in line with these other adult responsibilities? A 2012 study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that young adults aged 18 to 24 are at the highest risk of experiencing sexual exploitation, further highlighting the need to raise the legal age for sex work.
We insist on raising the legal age for participating in sex work to 21. This simple act may not only protect these young adults from potential abuse but also gives them more time to understand their rights, the world around them and to make informed decisions.
We cannot stand by and allow our youth to be preyed upon under the guise of legal technicalities. It's time to address the issue and protect our young adults. Stand with us today to safeguard their future. Raise your voice and sign our petition.
