The issue

For many of us living in the McLaren Vale region, Quarry Road serves as a vital bypass for the notoriously busy McLaren Vale main street. Having witnessed its transformation from a dangerous dirt track to a fully engineered bitumen road equipped with safety rails, it's perplexing why the speed limit remains restricted to 60km/hr. Many of my friends and family members commute daily on this route, and it is crucial for their safety and convenience that we address these speed and infrastructure concerns.

Tourists unfamiliar with the area often misread the signs and drop their speed to as low as 50km/hr. This discrepancy between road conditions and the speed limit not only causes confusion but also frustrates local drivers who, in their impatience, are driven to break the rules by overtaking on solid white lines and speeding.

Ironically, the remaining stretch of Quarry Road leading to Kays Road adheres to a more rational speed limit of 80km/hr. Bringing the entire Quarry Road up to this standard would ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce reckless road behaviour. Moreover, introducing turning lanes for trucks at Long Gully Road would cater to heavy vehicles and improve overall traffic safety.

Let's join together to make Quarry Road safer and more efficient for everyone. By raising the speed limit to 80km/hr and adding critical infrastructure, we can alleviate traffic frustrations and prevent risky driving practices. Sign this petition and let the local authorities know that we demand a safer, more coherent traffic system for Quarry Road. Your support will help protect our community and enhance the driving experience for all.
