The Issue

As a devoted Kharghar-based NGO SWACH KHARGHAR FOUNDATION. we have witnessed the verdant beauty of our community being threatened by the continuous tree cutting activities sanctioned by CIDCO. This natural destruction disrupts not only the ecological balance of our area but also the serenity and purity of the air we breathe—a critical component of life that should not be compromised for infrastructural advancements without due consideration.

The city planners have decided to cut down a significant number of trees to install underground Electric cables. While we understand the need for urban development and certain modern amenities, this action overlooks sustainable practices and the critical role that trees play in maintaining our environment. The very essence of Kharghar's natural landscape is its lush greenery, an identity that is slowly being erased.

Numerous studies have highlighted the importance of urban green cover in improving air quality, reducing urban heat, and contributing to the mental well-being of its residents. According to research published by reputable environmental organizations, even a small increase in green spaces can significantly lower temperatures in urban areas and reduce air pollution levels.

Therefore, we urge the local authorities to reconsider their approach and explore alternative, eco-friendly methods. Techniques such as directional boring or micro-tunneling allow for the installation of underground utilities with minimal impact on the surface. These techniques have been successful in various cities globally and could be a model for preserving Kharghar's green identity.

Let us not sacrifice our trees and the benefits they bring for temporary conveniences. Our community's future, our children's playgrounds, and the very air we breathe depend on these trees.

We call on all citizens, environmentalists, and government officials to acknowledge the significance of protecting our trees and to work collectively towards a sustainable development plan that includes replantation and green preservation strategies.

Stand with us in demanding that CIDCO halts the indiscriminate cutting of trees and decisively implements more sustainable alternatives. Sign this petition to show your support for a greener, healthier Kharghar. Let us be the voice for our trees before it's too late.

Proposed area is from Utsav Chowk to metro station sector 5.
