One month prior, my body was already warning me that something was wrong, yet the healthcare officials ignored my pleas, treating me—an uncontrolled diabetic—with steroids for a bacterial sinus infection. Against my explicit wishes, they proceeded with a treatment that was supposed to heal me but instead heightened my blood sugar level to over 600. This disastrous decision led to the nightmare of my lifetime, highlighting a severe deficiency in our healthcare system.

Unfortunately, this isn't just my story. It's a reality many in the State of Louisiana face due to our current medical malpractice lawsuit cap being set at a mere $500,000. This insufficient amount protects incompetent doctors, hospitals, and healthcare officials from the repercussions of their actions, leaving victims and their families to wrestle with the consequences for years. Moreover, after the extensive attorney fees, virtually nothing is left to aid recovery or secure a future decimated by negligence.
