Raise Georgia’s Minimum Wage For Restaurant Workers

Raise Georgia’s Minimum Wage For Restaurant Workers
The Issue
I’m a server living and working right on the border of Georgia and Florida, and I’m tired of watching restaurant workers in Georgia get left behind.
In Florida, tipped workers make $8.98/hour + tips. In Georgia, we’re still stuck at $2.13/hour, a rate that hasn’t changed in over 30 YEARS. That’s not just unfair, it’s a financial trap for thousands of hardworking people.
After taxes, that $2.13 paycheck often adds up to nothing — literally $0. Many of us never even see a paycheck. We rely entirely on tips to survive, and if business is slow, we go home with less than what it cost us to drive to work.
Rent is going up. Gas is expensive. Groceries are expensive. And we’re expected to live off tips that can change from day to day, and a base pay that doesn’t even cover a gallon of milk. We work doubles, late nights, weekends, and holidays, often doing way more than just taking orders and running food. We clean, stock, roll silverware, scrub floors, and prep kitchens… and still get paid just $2.13 an hour for all of that.
This is not sustainable, and it’s not right.
I’ve written a letter to Georgia’s leadership asking them to raise the tipped minimum wage, but I need YOUR help to make them listen, I won’t turn the letters in without enough signatures. If you believe that people deserve fair pay for hard work, please sign this petitionand share it with your friends, family, and coworkers.
If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, eaten in one, or been served by someone trying to make ends meet, this matters to you too.
