The Issue

Having experienced first-hand the grave injustice and systemic misconduct within the Western Australia Police Force (WAPOL), I feel compelled to speak out. During an interview, I was deprived of the basic necessities of life and legal advice, an experience that was frightening and dehumanising. What was more alarming is the heart attack I suffered during this process, which was then systematically covered up by WAPOL's internal complaints process.

"The Magistrate later determined that the senior police officers involved had been untruthful — in effect, they had lied." As a result, the true perpetrator escaped scrutiny, and the case was never adequately investigated." Funds designated for frontline NGO relief efforts in Ukraine were stolen and diverted into another individual's bank account, depriving those in urgent need of essential support.

As Community Chaplains, we are deeply committed to advocating for justice and systemic reform within Australia's justice system. Our focus is on the rights and dignity of seniors, individuals with disabilities, vulnerable populations, and First Nations peoples. Our mission is to address the deep-rooted issues of brutality and corruption within law enforcement agencies, including WAPOL, and work towards building a more ethical and accountable policing system.

WAPOL, like all law enforcement agencies, exists to protect and serve the public. However, numerous allegations of excessive use of force, corruption, and inadequate oversight continue to erode public trust. It is crucial to amplify the voices of those who have been wronged and ensure these allegations are thoroughly investigated and addressed.

In Australia, the lack of transparency and external scrutiny over police actions remains a significant barrier to justice. According to a report by the Australian Institute of Criminology, police misconduct complaints have not decreased, highlighting systemic issues that need urgent attention. Furthermore, stories of police brutality affecting vulnerable and minority communities, including First Nations people, are all too common and cannot go unchallenged.

We are calling for a comprehensive, independent investigation into my case and WAPOL's practices, as well as an overhaul of their internal complaints process. This investigation should be conducted by an impartial body that has the public's trust, ensuring that those accused Police Officers are held accountable.

By signing this petition, you are joining a movement demanding transparency, accountability, and justice within WAPOL. Your signature will help us push for the changes needed to protect individuals from unjust treatment and build a policing system that genuinely serves its community. Please sign now to help make a difference.
