The Issue
My little brother Jaden lost his life over an argument that should’ve never escalated. During one of these so-called 'takeovers', a gathering meant to be fun turned fatal, he was shot twice and killed at just 15 years old. People shared images of his lifeless body online, with no respect for the devastation left behind. These gatherings are becoming increasingly dangerous and that needs to change now.
Teenagers are becoming victims of gun violence in environments that should be safe. My brother loved life, and like any parent or family member, I cherished every moment with him, but now I must carry the burden of never seeing him grow up, graduate, or pursue his dreams. How many more families must go through this?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, firearm-related injuries are among the leading causes of death among American teenagers. Far too many youths are losing their lives over senseless acts of violence, often driven by minor disagreements.
We need stronger community policies to stem the tide of gun-related violence in these gatherings. Law enforcement, community leaders, and all stakeholders must come together to address this alarming trend. We need interventions that focus on prevention, education on conflict resolution, and stricter penalties for those who bring weapons to these events.
The lives of young people should not be something we only cherish after they are gone. It is urgent that we create an environment where they can grow up, live peacefully, and fulfill their potential without the threat of gun violence looming over them.
Please sign this petition to push for stronger measures that will prevent more teenagers like my brother from tragically losing their lives, and demand justice for those affected by such preventable tragedies. Together, we can make a difference, one signature at a time.
Jaden was a loving boy. All he wanted was to graduate. He always talked about playing ball just being outside with his friends and loving his family.
