Raise awareness about dangers of happy daze tablets and kratom
The Issue
My son was a vibrant 20-year-old with his entire life ahead of him. Tragically, he never got to fulfill his dreams. He fell victim to a dangerous substance marketed as a "safe herbal alternative" in our community's local vape shop. These substances, namely Happy Daze tablets and kratom, are easily accessible and have deceptive packaging that leads unsuspecting young adults astray. One day, he purchased Happy Daze tablets, consumed only two, and it led to a fatal overdose. The irreparable loss that we now suffer is one that no family should have to endure.
The issue at hand is urgent and affects families everywhere. Many such substances like Happy Daze tablets and kratom are being sold legally, often with little to no warning about their potentially lethal side effects. The allure of chemically-induced euphoria is drawing our youth into dangerous territories. This is an alarming health threat that many parents may not even be aware of until it’s too late.
Statistics show an increasing number of hospital admissions linked to kratom and its derivatives. In 2019, the National Poison Data System reported over 2,300 exposure cases in the United States alone. Despite these daunting figures, these substances remain largely unregulated due to their classification as dietary supplements.
The time to act is now. We need government authorities and health agencies to take immediate measures. We urge our legislators to:
1. Review and reclassify these substances to restrict their availability.
2. Enforce mandatory warning labels on all packaging indicating the potential health risks and dangers of overdose.
3. Launch educational campaigns to inform parents and young adults about the risks associated with using these substances.
4. Conduct further research to better understand the long-term health impacts and to ensure stricter quality control.
Each step taken toward these actions could prevent further tragedies. Parents, guardians, and community leaders: we must protect our children from these hidden dangers.
