COMMUNITY ALERT
Protect Our Rail Corridor
Armidale Regional Council has started contacting residents about the proposed rail trail (bike trail in the rail corridor) from Armidale to Ben Lomond.
Before answering any questions or providing feedback, please consider the long-term consequences of removing the rail line.
Why This Matters?
This corridor is our only direct rail connection to Queensland, one of Australia's fastest-growing states.
Once the rail infrastructure is removed, restoring it in the future would be extremely costly—if it is possible at all.
Preserving the rail corridor protects future opportunities for:
Regional passenger rail services
Freight transport and logistics
Economic development and investment
Stronger connections between New England and Queensland
Think Long Term.
A rail trail may offer recreational benefits, but the permanent loss of rail infrastructure could limit the region's transport, freight, and economic options for generations.
Once the tracks are removed, bringing rail back will be far more difficult and expensive.
