It is impotant to send individual submisions as well as by various associations to the regional integrated transpot plan development pocess. This is a plan being developed for the next 20 years for our egion including Armidale LG area. Afte the completion this year, NSW govt will determine poities for regional transport based on what is included in the egional transport plan for our region.
Among others, some points we can comment on are:
1. ARC has identified several housing zones in Armidale, Black Mountain, Guyra and Ben lomong in its future plans. They need to be provided with adequate public transpot services.
2. Connectivity between towns and villages in the LG area is a must. For example, Amidale aiport is not connected with bus services even when many in surrounding aeas use it. esifents have to hire taxis to access the airport.
3. Armidale hospital is being used as a first point of call by residents in the LG area. For more complex medical issues they have to visit Tamworth, Newcastle and Sydney. Air fares are pohibitive. A retun ticket to Sydney can cost between $500-700 if not booked online in advance.
4. New England Renewable Energy Zone with over 30 projects in planning or construction stages. Currently the roads are used to transport equipment. A ail feight service from Newcastle to REZ can be very useful
5. Renewed train sevices to and from the LG area, especially from the north can improve the visitor economy.
6. NSW government needs to follow on from the federal government policy of shifting freight from roads to rail for achieving decarbonisation goals.
