"As energy and public transport economics shift rapidly away from the heavily subsidised private transport for both goods and people by road alone, the loss of the rail easement will be rightly seen as an absolutely appalling error of judgent and planning. The inevitable cost, and squandered opportunity in a generation's time will be astromomical as we will be locked into the worst, inescapable option. The economics of a single prime mover and driver for every long distance shipping container is already untenable. Use the easement for other purposes maybe, but do not loose its full length integredy from public ownership and inevitable future vital use".
