Dear Railway Suporters in Regional NSW,
This is a critical time for us. Over a year or more we tried in so many ways to convince the State government and local government authorities the merits of restoring train services between Armidale and Wallangarra near Tenterfield and Queensland border e.g. writing letters, submitting petitions, making submissions. We met with the shadow regional transport and roads minister Jenny Aitchison and explained our concens and points of view. We saw how the coalition and Labor voted to approve the Rail Trail Bill last year and even MPS and MLCs openly stated that they support Rail Trails during the debate. Now that we have reached the last week of election campaign, neither major party has come up with any funding promise to restore train services in regional NSW in general or along the great northern railway corridor in particular. We are very disappointed with the attitude of both major parties. Even the Greens -though they opposed the rail trail bill 2022- are only talking about the need for a network of bus services in regional areas?
This has left us with no option than to look for any independent candidate who supports our campaign to get the trains back to Guyra, Glen Innes, Deep water, Tenterfield and Wallangarra. Fortunately, in Northern Tablelands we have Billy wood, rail independent. In Lismore, we have Allen Crosthwaite independent. In Cootamundra there is Brian Fisher independent). There is no other way than to support community independents like them to take our message to NSW parliament. I encourage you to vote these independents to get our message across to power. In the Upper house vote Elizabeth Farrelly independents.
Billy is emphasising the need to restore train services beyond Armidale to Tenterfield in order to serve the communities along the line, attract new industry, business, new residents and visitors to the region. When he moved to Guyra from Brisbane 16 years ago and developo his business he expected that the transport facilities by rail will be revived. As many residents he is also unhappy that the governments in Macquarie street neglected the great northern railway for over 30 years and have no plans to restore train services for the next 30 years while a public asset like the GNR is lying there waiting to serve the people of Northern Tablelands once again. The fact that major parties are not interested in funding the revival of train services compelled Billy to stand as an independent. He needs your support at the election.
We are very fortunate to have someone like Billy speaking on our behalf and seeking to attract voters away from major parties like the coalition and Labor. Both have no plans to fund regional railway extensions for the next 3 decades at least.
Please vote 1 Billy Wood
