Dear rail supporters,
We have been waiting to hear about any funding commitments by major parties for the extension of rail services in regional NSW and/or regional rail infrastructure developments. We are highly disappointed. Nothing is announced so far except a $400 million for the upgrading of Country rail network(CRN) by the Liberal-national coalition. This is over a 4 year period.
Greens are also non commital. Their policy is to support a network of bus services across regional NSW. However, during the debate on Rail Trail Bill 2022 they opposed it in the Upper house along with Shooters,Fishers and Farmers party whereas both the coalition and Labor supported it. Furthermore, Labor MPs and MLCs told parliament that they support Rail Trails.
Thus we now have to look for community independents to advance our cause politically. Fortunately we have 3 independents at this election. 1. Allen Crosthwaite(Lismore), Billy Wood(Northern Tablelands), and Brian Fisher (Cootamundra). They desrve your vote if you want candidates with a rail platform to succeed with a call - trains back to your area.
Major parties want to preserve the status quo, meaning help the trucking industry to transport freight. We believe that thats the reason they are reluctant to fund regional rail. They also want to support the conversion of existing regional rail corridors to build rail trails(bike tracks) by providing funding to local councils.
Consider these facts carefully when you go to the polling booths on 25th March 2023.
