Hello, 

This petition is to bring awareness to the district about racially targeted harassment at this school from a teacher. This is also advocating for immigrant students and families, as no one should feel their education is being chipped away by being under racial scrutiny. 

For context about this issue:

During the ICE walkout protests on February 13 taking place at the school , English Teacher Ms. Gerst said a long list of racially disrespectful comments against undocumented immigrants. Such as: "people resisting in ICE protests deserve to die" and if her student was an "undocumented immigrant, not in the process of getting papers, she would deport them".
 Although several people are reporting this to the office, one making it to the district, it was very pushed aside and there is still no reassurance that this is a safe classroom to be in.  Present-day politics are a frequent and unrelated topic in her class, and puts the room at unease as If waiting for her abrupt comments to quickly turn hostile. Ms. Gerst brings up these topics under no provocation and continues to be unfiltered and insensitive about her demographic of students. There are several others of her coworkers who feel harassed when interacting, and can attest for the lack of action on the office and district's part for this issue. 

As of recently: 

The PTO has been notified and I was connected to the school board trustee. 

I forwarded all report emails to the superintendent and her assistant. 

Following the report to the district, the only action they took was to resend my report back to the principal after I explicitly stated that they were taking no action whatsoever. The reports were immediately filed in February and we were promised that this issue would be resolved, but it was completely ignored for 2 months until further action was taken on the students part. I was called into her office in which she was flippant and disrespectful while I was trying to explain how unreliable the office has been in this situation, proving their unwillingness to be conforming on this racism.

For this petition, all people are allowed to sign who: support the cause, have been in her class, and who have also been harassed by Ms. Gerst.
