Stop the closure of BA Sociology & Anthropology at Queen's University - #SaveOurSchools!

The Issue

Queen's University Belfast have passed a proposal entitled the Size & Shape Review which amounts to a huge attack on particular schools at QUB.

Single Honours Sociology and Single Honours Anthropology have been scrapped, despite their academic excellence in UK Higher Education. Student places have been cut, tariffs have been increased for NI students, and courses such as those containing Irish and Philosophy will lose up to 50% of their students, effectively ensuring their demise in the near future.

This is planned against the backdrop of what Queen's calls a 'strong financial year' which resulted in a £40m surplus, over £600m in assets, over £300m in total income, and £11m in salaries to the top 100 employees at QUB. We call on Queen's University to end the marketisation of the University, and support courses on their academic merit, not their perceived ability to bring in private revenue.

Support staff and students and call on Queen's University Belfast to immediately reverse their decision to close Single Honours Anthropology and Single Honours Sociology #SaveOurSchools
