I recently found out that hunting is legal and permitted on the Island of Montreal and is freely exercised in "Lance de l'Orme" park in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and in other urban natural parks. Paula Hawa, mayor of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue spoke with the CBC and she is working at having this Provincial law amended.

Hunters are using guns, bows and traps to capture and kill animals. Imagine a child or a companion animal walking into a trap and losing a leg or their life if not found in time! It has happened and it will happen again if not stopped!

As it stands, there are municipal regulations banning the use of firearms and other hunting gear but provincial law trumps these regulations. Therefore there isn't much city councils can do to stop hunters.

L'Anse-à-l'Orme nature park is a popular place to walk, but it's also a popular place to hunt and opponents say that's a dangerous combination. (CBC)
