IAM Members Deserve Answers About the Quantum Health Data Breach

IAM members and their families rely on the National IAM Benefit Trust Fund (IAMBTF) for essential healthcare benefits. In doing so, we entrust the Fund and the companies it selects to administer those benefits with some of our most sensitive personal and medical information.

Recent events have raised serious questions about how that trust is being protected.

What Happened?

On August 29, 2026, affected participants received notice of a significant data breach involving Quantum Health, a third-party healthcare navigation vendor used by the IAM Benefit Trust Fund.

According to the notification, an unauthorized third party compromised Quantum Health's network between May 29 and June 1, 2026 and acquired files containing sensitive participant information. The information potentially involved included names, health insurance information, claims history, medical diagnoses, treatment records, prescription information, provider information, and potentially Social Security numbers.

This is deeply personal information that IAM members and their families should be able to trust will be appropriately safeguarded.

Why Members Should Be Asking Questions
The breach did not occur in a vacuum.

During the period surrounding the implementation of Quantum Health, the company underwent a publicly reported 4% workforce reduction. There were also significant changes in executive and C-suite leadership, internal restructuring involving its IT infrastructure, and rapid implementation of automated systems and artificial intelligence (AI) in member-facing operations.

Those circumstances do not, by themselves, establish that they caused the breach. But combined with a breach involving sensitive participant information, they raise legitimate questions about oversight, vendor monitoring, staffing, cybersecurity, and whether warning signs were appropriately evaluated.

The people whose information was entrusted to this system deserve answers.

What Did the IAM Benefit Trust Fund Know?
The IAM Benefit Trust Fund's Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing the Fund and the administration of member benefits. Members deserve transparency regarding how Quantum Health was selected and monitored.

We are asking:

• What due diligence was performed before Quantum Health was selected?

• What review was conducted of Quantum Health's cybersecurity and administrative infrastructure?

• What safeguards were required to protect participant medical and personal information?

• Did the Trustees monitor Quantum Health's staffing levels, organizational changes, IT restructuring, and service quality after the contract was implemented?

• Were any concerns identified before the breach?

• What security audits or investigations have been required since the breach?

• What corrective measures has the Fund demanded from Quantum Health?

• What additional protections are now being implemented for IAM members and their families?

Members Deserve Transparency
A breach involving medical and personal information can have consequences long after the initial incident. Members may face concerns about identity theft, misuse of medical information, insurance fraud, and the exposure of information that should remain private.

This is why we are asking for more than assurances.

We are calling for a comprehensive and transparent review of the IAM Benefit Trust Fund's selection and oversight of Quantum Health, the safeguards that were in place before the breach, the Fund's monitoring of its vendor, and the corrective actions being taken now.

We are also asking that the results and meaningful corrective actions be communicated clearly to the IAM members and families whose information and healthcare benefits are at stake.
