Quality Over Ouantity: Lower the Acceptance Rate at Mizzou Today

The Issue

  • As a student at the University of Missouri, also known as Mizzou. I am experiencing firsthand the challenges that come with an overcrowded campus. Currently, the increase in students has led to a severe shortage in campus resources being accessible, including dining facilities, the recreation center, housing, and even parking being available. These issues have resulted in impacting my day-to-day life, and other students have expressed that this overpopulation of students has effects on their day-to-day lives as well. This makes it difficult for us to focus on the real reason we are enrolled and what truly matters: our education.

  • Many students face long waits in dining, limited housing availability, and a lack of parking spaces. This is not just inconvenient—it negatively affects our quality of life and our academic performance. In fact, according to a recent study published by the National Center for Education Statistics, overcrowding in universities can impact students’ academic achievements as well as their physical and mental well-being.

  • To address these issues, I think that Mizzou should lower its acceptance rate. By doing so, the university can ensure that current and future students have access to essential resources such as the Rec center, housing, and parking availability. This will create a more supportive and manageable environment for learning and development.

  • Lowering the acceptance rate would not only benefit current students but also enhance Mizzou's reputation as an institution. this will show that Mizzou prioritizes the well-being and success of its students. This would lead to Mizzou being valued as a higher quality school as well and more apealing to incoming students.

  • I highly urge the administration and Monchu, the president of the University, to consider this proposal seriously. To show you take your students acedemic and mental well-being, it is highly important for students to have access to resources. So, please sign this petition to show your support for a healthier, happier, and more accessible Mizzou.
