Save DEVOS (formerly Queenstown School of Dance)

As you will have read in the Mountain Scene and Otago Daily Times , DEVOS (formerly Queenstown School of Dance) is closing before it has opened due to the lease increasing by an additional $25,000 per year at the new premises.

Anna Stuart’s “Queenstown School of Dance” was one of the top schools in New Zealand.  Last year there were 320 students for jazz, ballet, hip-hop and contemporary dance. This year there were already 414 enrolments before it closed.  A high number of enrolments are students who have been dancing with Anna’s school for over 12 years.  There is nowhere in Queenstown for these high caliber students to go.

We as parents, students and families feel we have been let down by the QLDC.  We know that Anna has done her very, very best to try and find a suitable premise in the area over the past year,  but there is nothing available.  We also know how dance has positively affected our children - the confidence we see in their faces when they preform on stage at the end of year show highlight this.

Please don’t let our dance community down. What we are asking for is a physical space where these DEVOS classes can be held NOW!
