Yesterday I had a really positive meeting with QLD Health Minister – and I’m so excited. He’s agreed to prioritise introducing training for emergency hospitals staff on suicidal patients!! It’s a win!! The Minister said it is vital to ensure that all emergency staff are equipped to recognise and respond to suicidal patients to make sure more people like my darling Chris do not die. In addition to making this training implementation a ‘top priority’, Minister Dick invited me to be heavily consulted throughout the process as part of the QLD Government’s review into Mental Health policy - I am really excited to be involved! I am really happy with the outcome of this meeting. I really feel as though Minister Dick was genuinely listening to me yesterday and caring about how this initiative can work toward a more positive future for mental health sufferers. I could not have gotten this outcome without the constant help, care, support and engagement of all of you - my loyal and active petition signers!! Minister Dick knows I am not going away until I see this change made - for all emergency hospital staff to be trained up on suicidal people - but yesterday’s green light was a very positive step forward in suicide prevention. I am now just waiting for the official statement from the Minister, but I am going to bed tonight one happy woman. THANK YOU, Kerrie xx
