15,000 signatures but we need many more to hold the Government to account. Please help me reach my next goal of 25,000!
In early April, Miki Perkins of the Sydney Morning Herald reported that a major environment report was yet to be released to the public, despite it being received months earlier. Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley held onto the “State of the Environment Report” and once an election was called, had no obligation to release it.
There’s only one reason this decision would have been made – a poor report card that reflects badly on the government’s (mis)management of the environment, which in turn would cost them votes.
The study is conducted every 5 years. 32 authors spent several years compiling the independent, government-commissioned report. So why wasn’t it released?
Just further evidence that our government doesn’t understand that the Earth does not belong to us, we belong to it. We disrespect it at our peril. What we are doing to the planet is simply unsustainable. To turn things around, we need strong environmental laws which retain our precious forests and must have a robust plan for regenerating others.
I don’t know about your parents, but mine taught me to leave things in the same, if not better condition as I found them. If you were raised with the same ethics, please think of a couple of others who would also put their name behind this petition and share it with them.
Thank you once again for helping make a difference.
Warm regards, Jorj
