Since the very first day the doors of East View High School opened, the founding principal, Dr. Dave Denny, took the time to give his thoughts of the day-usually a story with some kind of moral. He always made it personal and relatable. Then, he would end with “This is Dr. Denny. Make it a great day or not. The choice is always yours!” The students became so used to it that they would say it with him. At his last EVHS graduation in 2019, he closed with “Make it a great LIFE or not. The choice is always yours!” and it brought the house down.
After Dr. Denny left EVHS, this quote was printed above the main entrance to the school as a reminder to everyone that they had a choice in how their day was going to go.
Two weeks before the end of the 2021-2022 school year, the quote was removed at the direction of the new principal. This was done with no consideration or communication with the students, staff, parents, or community. When many people asked why it was removed, they were told that “it doesn’t resonate with the kids anymore.” Making good choices should ALWAYS be a motto for any and all students. It should be a reminder that EVERY DAY, life is what you make it.
The decision to remove it and replace it with something else should have been discussed with the students, staff, and parents of the community. But it was not. It was just taken down.

We want a choice and we want the original quote back. The quote is part of the foundation of EVHS and we need to protect it.
