Put Albert Belle in the Baseball Hall of Fame

Put Albert Belle in the Baseball Hall of Fame

The Issue

Albert Belle was one of the most feared and productive hitters of the 1990s.

In 1995, he hit 50 home runs and 52 doubles in a strike-shortened season—a feat no player in Major League Baseball history has ever matched.

He led the league that year in RBIs (126), slugging percentage (.690), and total bases (377)—all in just 143 games. Those numbers weren’t just league-leading. They were legendary. His slugging percentage was the highest in baseball since 1957. His total bases were more than anyone else posted in a full 162-game season.

Over his 12-year career, Belle compiled:

  • 381 home runs
  • 1,239 RBIs
  • .933 OPS
  • Five All-Star appearances
  • Three Silver Sluggers
  • Eight straight 30+ HR seasons

He led the league in total bases three times, slugging percentage twice, and RBIs three times. By every statistical measure, Albert Belle was one of the most dominant hitters of his generation.

So why isn’t he in the Hall of Fame?

Because the media didn’t like him.

He didn’t do interviews. He didn’t smile for the cameras. He didn’t play the press game. And when his name came up for Hall of Fame voting, the Baseball Writers Association of America punished him. He was dropped from the ballot after just two years.

This petition exists to correct that injustice—and to restore the legacy of one of baseball’s greatest hitters.

It’s about honoring performance, not personality. It’s about reminding the Hall of Fame that its job is to celebrate baseball’s greatest players—not just the most media-friendly.

Now is the time to act.

The Contemporary Baseball Era Committee still has the power to right this wrong. Fans have a voice—and the Hall needs to hear it. Add your name and help make sure Albert Belle’s legacy gets the recognition it has always deserved.

Let the Hall know it’s time. Sign your name. Share the truth.
