The request for the Dance minor to be recognized by University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) has been and continues to be ignored.

The Dance department of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) has been actively working to have Dance included as an official minor under the College of LSA for years. However, the requests sent to LSA to obtain approval of the minor have all been denied with no clear reason. 

All other colleges under the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus have approved of the minor. The College of LSA is the largest school at the University of Michigan, and is closest to Dance in field of study. The lack of approval is unfathomable to over 100 students who have been working toward the Dance minor for the entirety of their college careers and have dedicated long hours in hopes of pursuing dance-related careers. Not having these efforts officially recognized on their transcripts is not an option.
